National Running Center
Great brands, great service, they have a PR club that allows you to save on almost everything in the store.
Subscribe to their catalogs and get some great deals, especially on
clearance items. For shoes, you can buy the previous years models at a
significant discount.
Road Runner's Club
Probably the more popular of the online mail order specialty running
retailers, they carry some great brands and also have a discount club,
Onlineshoes.com
If you buy the same old make and model of shoe then this site is a
great way to save money since try-before-you-buy is not an option.
Modell's
If you're both brand conscious and don't want to drain your wallet of
funds, you CAN have both. Modell's, a national sporting goods store,
has name brands like Nike, Adidas and Under Armour that are usually
heavily discounted. Shorts, shirts, socks and some running accessories
like water bottles are usually available at all of their stores. The
best time to stock up is right after Christmas. I would not recommend
buying running shoes at Modell's though. They have a limited selection
and the clerks normally don't know anything about the running shoes.
If you know what you are buying before you enter the store and they
carry it then that would be the only caveat. Otherwise, save your money
on shoes for the specialty running stores or higher end sporting goods
shops.
