Levels - Kids, Women and Senior Citizens
With more and more people becoming health-conscious, the reasons for running have gone beyond the aesthetic and the age range beyond 20 to 40 years old.
Running for Children
While children cannot do Marathon Running just yet, it would be a good way to expose them this early to running. It would be a good way to train them to be health-conscious at this stage of their lives. There are a lot of events organized every year that are made especially for children. There are the 1 mile run for elementary students and even a race of a number of yards for toddlers. One must remember, however, that children's training should be supervised by coaches or trainers with enough experience. Children are also like adults who need to warm up and cool down before and after running and should always be well-hydrated.
Running for Women
It is already given that women can run half and whole marathons. However, women have special needs when engaging in this type of activity. Probably the most obvious need of a woman when running is the need to wear a sports bra. It supports the breasts to protect them from sagging and the discomfort connected with running without it.
Aside from that, it is another concern when women plan to run again after having a baby. If you are a mother, your time would be divided between caring for your newborn and your running routine. For some, the new adjustments causes stress especially if one is already accustomed to a regular training regimen.
Another concern exclusive to women is their menstrual period. The hormone changes in a woman's body affects her performance. This is something male runners would never experience and thus would never fully understand. It is therefore important that a woman has a support system made up of people who would understand her needs. Thus, there are a lot of running clubs created especially for women. There, the members could interact and talk about the things that commonly concerns them.
Running for Senior Citizens
As for the elderly, it is never too late to be active and take up running. It is actually advised to older people, those who are over 50 years old. There are numerous studies that have found out that continuous exercise even at old age prolongs ones life, longer than those who led sedentary lives. However, if you are an elderly who plans on taking up running, you should seek your doctor's advice first to see if you are fit enough to run. If you are, then slip your feet into those Running Shoes and sweat it out!
You have learned in this section that some types of runners have special needs just like the case of women and elderly runners. But aside from that, you have also learned that anybody can take up running no matter the age. It's not yet too late to take up running, even just for fitness.
