Speed Training

Written by: ccarlos

Speed Training Speed is defined as the ability to move the body in the intended direction in the fastest time possible. More specifically, it is the rapidity of movement of any part of the body in accordance to its purpose; speed is the quickness of the legs for Running or arm for throwing. Speed is part of every sport and can be further expressed as strength and endurance.

Good athletes have Speed Training exercises in their programs to develop specific skills which are integral in their sport. Speed Training drills are an excellent method to improve form, technique, and power output. These help the athletes to correct some of the many technical errors that occur when they are running at high intensities. These exercises also develop agility, flexibility, and power.

Speed Training drills are not exclusive for athletes. These can also be done by anyone who wishes to improve his or her skill and gain strength and power in the exercises.

Speed and quickness are two very important aspects of sports or any physical performance that can be enhanced by doing strength training exercises.

Basic training programs develop all qualities of movement to a level that will provide a solid base on which to build each successive step. Maximum power is trained by working in an intensity range of 55 - 85% of your maximum intensity.

For successful Speed Training, it is advisable to have a reasonable goal for your event. Start with a normal speed then work your way up by going faster and further than your goal in order to enhance your muscular coordination, confidence, and stamina at your desired speed. At first, utilize long recoveries or breaks. Shorten the recovery periods between work intervals to make your training more specific and realistic to a racing or competition pace.

Although it is very tempting to start your own Speed Training routine, you must first realize the importance of learning how to do Speed Training drills correctly. These drills are a requirement in any speed development program, but make sure to watch experienced professionals as they do these exercises correctly. Otherwise, you might commit errors and get very little out of it in the long run.

There is a wide range of Speed Training exercises that can be helpful to you as long as you learn how to do them correctly. Try to include Speed Training exercises in your program to perform like a pro and be your own athlete.
