GreekForMe.com Provides Sponsorship
FRIDAY, 22 DECEMBER 2006
GreekForMe.com, a Delaware-based marketer of fraternity and sorority Greek merchandise, will provide fundraising support for the Delaware chapter of the national Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. The support will come via sponsorship of a runner in a 26.2-mile national fundraising marathon to be held in Phoenix, Arizona in January 2007. The personal touch is that the runner, Michael Galbus, is both a survivor of lymphoma and the husband of the owner of GreekForMe.com.
When Galbus approached his wife Crystal about running in the PF Chang Rock-n-Roll Phoenix Marathon to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, she smiled and said, 'That's nice dear.' Then he asked her and her business, GreekForMe.com, to provide money and sponsorship for the 26.2-mile endurance run.
'It has been seven years since my diagnosis and eventual cure from lymphoma,' Galbus notes. 'I feel I need to say thank you in some small way to all of the nurses, care givers, doctors, and friends who helped me survive cancer. I want to help raise awareness and funding for those fighting this awful disease.'
Galbus feels the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program is the perfect way for him to say thank you, satisfy a personal goal of running a marathon, and raise money for the Society.
'Michael's request got my attention. He has battled and survived lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. As a business team, we wanted to support him in this challenge,' said Crystal Galbus, wife and owner of GreekForMe.com 'We have provided fundraising ideas and financial support to many of our customer's fraternity and sorority charities, from monetary donations, to free Greek merchandise and fundraising advice. We wanted to continue the theme of giving for one of our own. If sponsoring Michael in this marathon helps him to support at least one other person battling cancer, then it was worth it. Having lived through his diagnosis, treatment and remission, I know that Michael's completion of this marathon is a blessing and we need to share it.'
According to Cindy Romanelli, director of Team in Training for the Delaware chapter, there are a countless number of stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for the Society.
'The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training provides a supportive environment to help you accomplish your goals,' says Romanelli. 'Running a marathon is no small feat. But realizing the fact that you're helping fund lifesaving cancer research, and knowing that your efforts are paying off by helping others, makes you feel great.'
