One Month Before Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon
THURSDAY, 21 DECEMBER 2006
Set for 12th January 2007, the marathon will take a brand new route, passing some of Dubai's best-known landmarks including the Burj al Arab.
"Many serious athletes have already started to increase their training regimes, but it is not too late for everyone else to get involved," said Niall McLoughlin, Regional Head of Corporate Affairs for Middle East and Pakistan. "The 3km fun run and 10km road race have proved an extremely effective way of getting people of all fitness levels involved in one of Dubai's biggest sporting occasions."
The 2007 running of the ever-popular 3km fun run will raise funds for 'Seeing is Believing', Standard Chartered's global charity that aims to restore the sight of ten million people. The bank is also working with schools from around the country to encourage children to compete in the charity race with thousands expected to take part on 12th January.
Organisers have planned a full programme of entertainment at the race's start / finish line behind Dubai World Trade Centre, with a student Battle of the Bands competition and the final of a Dubai-wide school art competition on display.
