2007 BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon
MONDAY, 19 MARCH 2007
Participation in the 2007 BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon just got easier with this year’s creation of the Full Marathon Team Relay option. Now participants, either runners or walkers, can sign up for the BMO Marathon without having to run the entire 42.2 km or 21.1 mile distance!
Participants can experience all the fun and excitement of a marathon with their friends or work mates. Two categories are available for Team Relay: corporate and community: with three divisions under each: male, female and mix (minimum of two female required). For the first year, registration has been limited to 100 teams total from all divisions.
Each team will have five members who each run an average of 8.44 km. The four exchange stations are at Quebec Street, just north of 1st Avenue, Burrard Street, just north of West Hastings Street, Beach Avenue at Morton Street and at Alma Street, just north of 4th Avenue West.
BMO Bank of Montreal, the title sponsor of the event, has already confirmed 10 teams for the Relay. Stacey Burgess, a member of the Running with the Bulls BMO Nesbitt Burns Relay Team said, “It gives more runners a chance to participate and the whole team concept is going to be fun out there on the course.”
All companies, communities, running groups and bands of friends are invited to create a team and register before the price increase of March 25th. Prizes from adidas will be awarded to the overall fastest team, the team with the most pledges received and the best team from each division. All teams must register online at www.bmovanmarathon.ca.
Also new this year, is the Full Marathon Nordic Walkers. Nordic walking is growing in popularity and more people are expected to register in this category every year. For safety reasons, Nordic Walkers in the BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon must follow specific guidelines, which are available on the website.
The 2007 BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon takes place on Sunday, May 6. The event has had unparalleled support from the community for 36 years and is entirely organized by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, a non-profit organization.
The Society’s mission is to create a world class marathon offering a fast and scenic marathon course, attracting both elite and recreational runners, walkers and wheelchair participants, and to engage the local community in a thrilling recreational and sporting event.
Register now to save on entry fees for any of the great marathon events: Full Marathon, Team Relay, Nordic Walkers, Half Marathon and Kids MaraFun.
