Boulder Backroads Marathon and Half Marathon
FRIDAY, 31 AUGUST 2007
The Boulder Backroads Marathon and Half Marathon are professionally-timed road races, held north of Boulder, framed by the majestic Colorado Front Range foothills.
Runners begin at the Boulder Reservoir and travel out through Boulder County’s beautiful countryside on mostly soft-packed dirt roads and quiet rural lanes. You’ll pass farms, cattle, horses, cottonwood groves and ponds, returning to the Reservoir for the finish and post-race festivities. Runners receive support from volunteers staffing a dozen aid stations along the well-marked route. Full marathon racers start at 7:00 a.m while half marathon racers start at 8:00 a.m.
The event, to be held on September 30, is open to anyone age 18 and over who has trained to complete the 26.2-mile or 13.1-mile distance in under seven hours. Non-registered runners, pacers/escorts, bicycles, inline skates, dogs, headphones/Walkman radios, wheelchairs or baby joggers are not allowed.
Both races start and finish at the Reservoir and are held in a mostly rural setting. A small portion of the course will be run on two-lane blacktop, which will be only partially closed to vehicular traffic during the event.
