Runner Joins Marathon to Raise Funds
WEDNESDAY, 20 FEBRUARY 2008
David Lucas, a runner from Australia, intends to participate in the Marathon des Sables on April 1, 2009 to raise funds for his chosen charity, the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. It helps terminally ill patients so they can live their remaining days in comfort. The hospice needs £2 million per year to provide free care for the patients.
Lucas aims to raise £4,000 before the event. At present, people have donated more than £1,000 to support Lucas’ cause.
To sponsor David Lucas and help the patients at Earl Mountbatten Hospice, you can give your donation at David Lucas’ Fundraising page: www.justgiving.com.
The Marathon des Sables is a 6-day foot race through the Moroccan Sahara Desert. It is equal to more than five marathons held over stony ground and soft, sinking sand dunes at 120 degrees.
