First Rabat Women’s Race Wraps Up

More than 17,000 women, from 12 - 87 years old, joined the first ever Rabat Women’s Race, which started in Boulevard de la Victoire (Victory Boulevard) in Rabat.
Nezha Bidouane, a two-time World 400m hurdles champion, initiated the said race not just to promote the benefits of the sport and the importance of doing exercise but also to promote the rights of Moroccan women.
Participants ran through the main streets of Morocco's capital city on the 8.5-kilometer course.
The race was sponsored by King Mohammed VI of Morocco and supported by the officials, including the President of the Moroccan Olympic Committee and the Moroccan Royal Athletics Federation.
The awards ceremony followed the race. A special prize was also awarded to the oldest woman (87 years old) who participated in the race.
