BUFFALO, NY – Around 70 runners in the Buffalo Marathon ran to raise funds for patients with neurofibromatosis and to increase awareness of this rarely known genetic disorder.
Wearing green shirts with “team n-f” printed on them, the runners aimed to raise $27,000 and surprisingly, the funds skyrocketed to $40,000. One of the runners was a Tonawanda mother named Linda Manth. Though this was her first time to run the marathon, she made it to the finish line. She was deeply motivated by her 8-year old daughter Leah who ran with her in the marathon.
Leah is currently suffering from the disease. Her family as well as her relatives and friends are hoping that the public will be aware of the disease and help them find a cure.
